Telling the Zakat story.
National Zakat FoundationThe Challenge
NZF asked us to create a series of videos to help highlight the importance of Zakat (a voluntary charitable tax) within the Muslim community.
The Services
The Idea
We created a four-part video series, with each part focussing on the personal story of someone who had been supported by Zakat during a time of need.
The intent was to show the depth, diversity and impact of Zakat, as well as underlining just how important it could be during a time of real hardship.
We wanted the stories to be engaging and emotionally resonant – as well as remaining tonally respectful to Islamic culture.
The Process
1. Concept
2. Planning
3. Casting
4. Filming
5. Editing
The Output
We used real stories from real Muslim families, but recounted them by using actors for the production.
By using a sombre black and white aesthetic at the beginning of each story we set a tone reflective of the subject at hand, shifting gradually to colour as the impacts of Zakat helped improve our subjects lives. In this way we ensured the visual storytelling echoed the progression of the narrative.
