My First 6 Months at ilk Agency.

My First 6 Months at ilk Agency.

I can’t believe it’s already been six months – the time has flown by! It’s been a whirlwind of learning, collaboration and growth, and there’s still so much more to come!

Here’s what I’ve been up to…

From interviewing in Egypt to my first day at ilk

This role was too good to pass up – so much so that I did my initial interview while on holiday in Egypt. It wasn’t the most conventional interview setting, but I wasn’t about to let the opportunity slip by and luckily, my husband was fully on board and agreed with the decision too.

Before officially starting, I had a lunch date with my new team: a small but thoughtful gesture that made all the difference in easing those first-day nerves. As ilk’s first-ever Digital PR Specialist, I knew I was stepping into something brand new, and this introduction gave me a chance to meet everyone in a relaxed setting before diving in.

Jumping in headfirst

I joined ilk Agency in October 2024, right in the thick of one of PR’s busiest seasons, with festive campaigns in full swing and 2025 strategies already in motion.

My first month was BUSY. Picture client introductions; brainstorms; planning; in-person pitches and campaign proposals. I also revamped our brainstorming process and introduced a new framework for ideation.

In just my second week, I had the chance to join a very special agency getaway (ilkstock) – experiencing ilk’s culture firsthand.

A Peak District getaway

To celebrate 25 years of ilk, the whole agency packed up and headed to the Peak District for a few days to enjoy a well-earned break. Even though I had only been at ilk for just over a week, I was all in; ready to embrace the experience and celebrate the legacy of the agency I’ve just joined. The trip included a murder mystery night (which I took far too seriously), a scenic 7km walk (which I absolutely did not complete), endless games, and plenty of food.

Beyond the fun, it was the perfect chance to properly get to know the team. In an integrated marketing agency like ilk, where PR, branding, digital, and social all work together, these relationships are essential.

Pitches, strategy & a snack drawer

My time at ilk has been exciting from the get-go. I was straight into strategy development, upskilling, and attending pitches. I’ve actually completed more pitches in the last six months than ever before, built tailored PR strategies, and helped shape how ilk approaches digital-first campaigns.

But the real highlight? Perfectly curating my own snack drawer at my very own desk. It’s the little things that make all the difference!

Six months in

Fast forward to now – I’ve not only passed my probation but also won Employee of the Month, which is a huge confidence boost, especially in a brand-new role for the agency. It’s a reminder that jumping into the deep end was worth it and that the work I’m doing is making an impact.

The past six months have flown by, and I know the rest of 2025 will be just as exciting. With bigger campaigns, more wins, and fresh opportunities for ilk’s PR offering, I can’t wait to see what’s next. If the first six months are anything to go by, it’s going to be a great year.
