Copywriter (& Ideas Person)
We’re looking for a mid-weight copywriter and creative thinker to join an award-winning, integrated marketing agency based at Leeds Dock. In addition to core copywriting duties, we also want someone who can contribute engaging creative concepts and ideas right across the business.
Role Requirements.
To work across any and all departments within the agency that require creative copy.
This might include:
- Supporting brand projects, including creative route development, product / brand naming, and campaign development and delivery
- Delivering a wide range of creative and collateral content including websites, blogs, brochures, newsletters, emailers, leaflets etc.
- Content creation for social and PR departments
- Scripts and concept support on film and production projects
We are also looking for someone who can contribute strongly in terms of ideas and concepts to help deliver on project objectives across a range of different departments.
This might include:
- Developing concepts and directions for branding routes (in conjunction with our design studio)
- Playing an active role in campaign and content ideas for social media clients and projects
- Playing an active role in campaign and content ideas for our PR clients
- Thinking around the briefs provided – not simply in terms of the task(s) outlined, but considering how it fits into wider client and project goals and objectives
- Pitching and presenting ideas both internally and directly to clients in meetings
The role will span different departments within the agency, so you’ll be working with a range of specialists across PR, Social, Design, Production and Account Management.
You’ll work particularly closely with our Account Management team, who will coordinate your workload in line with project management, and our Director of Strategy and Creative Copy. They will be your line manager, and someone with whom you’ll work especially closely on brand and branding projects.
The Person
As a copywriting role, it goes without saying that we’re looking for someone who loves the written word.
This goes beyond simply having a very strong grasp of structure, grammar and punctuation, but about understanding how to use language and tone to deliver concepts and ideas that engage in the most effective and efficient ways.
Here are some key skills we’re looking for:
- The willingness and ability to really understand our (your) clients, as well as the specific goals and objectives of the projects we work on
- The ability to think conceptually. As mentioned above, a big part of this role is ideas, so in addition to sound copywriting chops, we also want someone who gets a kick out of coming up with a great idea and, crucially, understands how to communicate it to its best effect
- Our clients come from all sectors and we work across all marketing channels. As such it’s a real asset to be culturally aware, be it art, science, culture, business and/or the news cycle. This isn’t just to keep work and copy contemporary, but to take inspiration wherever it can be found and thus drive the freshest ideas
- The ability to respond constructively to feedback – both internally and from the client. As with all creative work, you won’t always nail it the first time (no one does!). However, we’re looking for someone who’s able to understand where feedback comes from, engage with it, and find clever and practical solutions
- A keen eye for detail based on a deep understanding of client and brief – whether that’s picking up design/copy typos in creative, or checking work remains on brand
- A willingness to be involved, as necessary, in client meetings and calls. Whether that’s scoping out a new brief or presenting work in a pitch scenario, we want someone with the ability to articulate and sell their ideas directly to client
And finally, we believe we’ve got a great working culture at ilk, so it’s important we find someone who’s keen to be part of the team.
This role will naturally bring you into contact with people right across the business, and we want someone who’s going to embrace that.
The Experience.
We’re looking for someone who has at least two years of agency copywriting experience (or freelancing for agencies), ideally across a range of different sectors.
We’d also like someone who has experience of both the branding process, and crafting copy specifically for social content.
Ultimately, we’re looking for someone who’s had a great start in copywriting and is now looking to take the next step.
