#ilksidehustle

We’ve been uncovering the hidden side hustles of the ilk office. Looking under all the sofa cushions to find out just what our team have been up to during lockdown when they should have been filling in their timesheets. Take a dive into the links below, but first turn your nose towards Shauna, who’s been embracing her inner canine.

Describe your side hustle in a sentence.

Embracing my crazy dog lady life even more, and learning how to do search and track scent work with my beagle.

Now do it in emojis.

? ? ?️‍♀️ ?

What inspired you to give it a go?

When we were in the first stages of lockdown and couldn’t go out much, I wanted to keep my beagle Barney interested with physical and mental stuff because we couldn’t take him far away on our usual walks. My dog trainer announced a scent work class through Zoom, and it’s just something that I thought he’d be good at because of his breed!

What’s it taught you? Give us the full Eat Pray Love.

Well, so far Barney can track both mine and Jack’s scents and my house keys. So if we were ever lost in the woods, he could come find us. I’m not sure why we felt like we needed to prep for this eventuality – how lost can you really get in the trees in Huddersfield – but hey ho.

Tell us about your proudest side hustle moment.

The first time he followed a scent outside of the house and found the object we’d hidden without getting distracted along the way. I never thought putting some of my socks in a ziplock bag and getting my dog to tell me where they are would bring this much joy!

Any chance whatsoever you’ll still be doing this next year?

Maybe! It depends a little bit on how much Barney enjoys it. The idea that we could maybe help owners find lost dogs one day is a pretty nice one.
